Disappointed boss Graham Turner today responded to Shrewsbury Town’s mis-firing start to the League Two campaign by flinging open the selection door to his first team wannabes.

Town are still searching for their opening League victory of the season after going down 2-0 at Oxford last night.

Turner has named the same team for all four compettive matches so far, but last night’s lacklustre showing could promopt changes for Saturday’s visit of Crewe.

And a behind closed doors reserve team friendly at Wolves today was providing an opportunity for the early-season under-studies to force their way into a starting role.

“We have got a game today against what I understand will be a strong Wolves side and a number of players will be playing for a first team place,” said Turner.

“The likes of Joe Jacobson, Jermaine Grandison, Sean McAllister, Terry Gornell and Jon Taylor will play and I would like to see a performance from them which forces me to put them in the side on Saturday.”

All last season i was supportive at upbeat about the team even when we lost. This season it’s not so much about expectation or support it’s more about being honest about who’s doing what job, and whether they really want to play or not.

I’ve been to all three opening league games and can say that only the Plymouth game did we seam likely to even get close to winning.

The Burton and Oxford games were evidence that no matter how much pre hype we have from our own players the reality is something quite different when 90 minutes of real football starts.

We’re disjointed, play way too many hesitant and square balls, don’t play enough through balls to our players that do bother to run forward and what’s more Ben Smith needs to learn to stay firmly on his line when the lads are up field, both Burtons goal and Oxfords first goal saw Smith guilty of the most basic of goalkeeping errors, yes they were good strikes against us, but both goals could have been prevented if he’d watched his line instead of stood way out.

Back to the drawing board and put the players on the pitch that want to pass the ball forward and have a shot at goal. One shot on target in the Oxford match was woeful.

A very disappointed fan who demands that the basics are better on the pitch and equal to the money that we pay each week to travel and go through the turnstiles.
