Marvin Morgan has point to make against Oxford
Tuesday 16th August 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Hitman Marvin Morgan will tonight attempt to fire Shrewsbury Town to their first League Two victory of the season – against the club he rejected to move to the Greenhous Meadow.
Town travel to Oxford with both sides aiming to record their first League success of the campaign.
And the encounter has been given a little extra spice with Morgan’s revelation that he rejected overtures from Oxford to join Shrewsbury when he left Aldershot at the end of last season.
“There were other teams interested but we narrowed it down and it was between Oxford and Shrewsbury in the end,” said Morgan.
“I went down to Oxford and had a meeting which went well.
“They are a big club as well but myself and my agent set our targets which was to join Shrewsbury.
“Oxford made a last ditch effort to try and get me but I chose Shrewsbury and I know I made the right choice.”
Morgan has begun the season in tandem with James Collins in attack, but Terry Gornell is pushing for a start after his equaliser at Burton on Saturday.
Boss Graham Turner must also decide whether to continue with Shane Cansdell-Sherriff at left back with Joe Jacobson free from suspension for the first time after his summer arrival from Accrington Stanley.
And the Town boss has urged his side to capitalise on a nervy start to the season from Oxford who have picked up just one point from two League games so far and have bowed out of the Carling Cup.
“By League Two standards, they are a big club,” Turner said.
“We know it will be difficult but overall, I have been pleased with what I have seen and I think there is more to come from the team.,
“They are under pressure. They have lost two out of three and the crowd can easily turn. It’s up to us to control circumstances, take the game to them and keep them under pressure.”
