Shrews draw Swansea City in Carling Cup
Friday 12th August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Giantkillers Shrewsbury Town have been handed a tasty clash with Premier League new boys Swansea City in the second round of the Carling Cup.
Town earned their passage with a memorable 3-2 victory at Championship side Derby County on Tuesday.
And they will now welcome Brendan Rogers’ Swans, a side famed for their free-flowing football, to the Greenhous Meadow in the week beginning Monday, August 22.
“Swansea is a very attractive tie and it’s been a while since there has been a good cup run here,” said Town manager Graham Turner.
“We’d like to think we can cause them some problems.
“It’s one for the supporters and one for the players to look forward to. A cup run takes the pressure off gaining league points and everyone can enjoy it,” he added.
“If you play a Premier League side at home it’s always going to be an attractive prospect, and with the style of football Swansea play, it makes it even more appealing.”
