Ben Davies haunted by ‘failure’ at Shrewsbury Town
Tuesday 9th August 2011, 11:37AM BST.
Former favourite Ben Davies goes head-to-head with Shrewsbury Town tonight admitting he is still haunted by his failure to achieve promotion with the Shropshire club.
Town make their first ever trip to Pride Park for a Carling Cup first round encounter against Championship outfit Derby, who are expected to include Davies in their midfield.
The 30-year-old spent three seasons with Town, signing from Chester in 2006 before leaving for Notts County in 2009.
Davies was club captain during that spell which included two play-off final defeats.
The set piece specialist was injured for the first dose of Wembley heartache against Bristol Rovers in 2007.
Two years later he was part of a squad which included Grant Holt and Marc Tierney, now in the Premier League with Norwich, which finished seventh and were eventually beaten by Gillingham in the play-off final.
“I had three great years at Shrewsbury and it was an important time in my development as a player and a person,” said Davies.
