Shrewsbury Town considering Luke Summerfield and Carl Regan

Shrewsbury Town are running the rule over midfielder Luke Summerfield and right back Carl Regan as boss Graham Turner aims to conclude his squad rebuilding.
Free agents Summerfield – son of former Town midfielder and coach Kevin – and Regan were given 25 minute substitute outings in yesterday’s 2-1 victory over a Manchester United XI at the Greenhous Meadow.
Summerfield, 23, spent six years at Plymouth –including loan spells at Bournemouth and Leyton Orient – before being released at the end of last season.
And well-travelled 30-year-old Regan lists Macclesfield, MK Dons and Bristol Rovers amongst his former clubs.
The midfield and right back positions are areas that Turner is keen to strengthen before the season gets underway, but the Town boss was remaining coy over his plans for the pair.
“They have had a bit of experience and are a decent calibre of player,” said Turner. “They have been in for a few days and we will see what the outcome is going to be.
“I don’t want to go into details about anything yet.”
Goals from James Collins and Sean McAllister gave Town victory over a youthful United side – with the notable exception of first team squad member Darron Gibson – at the Greenhous Meadow.
And Turner was pleased with his side’s efforts.
“As a fitness exercise, it was very good,” he said.
“We won’t meet many teams at our level that try to keep the ball like Manchester United. We had to be disciplined, work hard and make sure our positional sense was right.
“When we had the ball, I thought we used it quite well. We got into some good positions – we might have done better with one or two – but it was a really good day and it’s taking shape nicely.”
Former Cardiff, Leicester and Stoke goalkeeper Gavin Ward looks set to be named as the club’s new part-time goalkeeping coach to replace Paul Gerrard.
