Accrington Stanley promise Terry Gornell fee battle

Accrington Stanley insist they will have no qualms about going to a tribunal with Shrewsbury Town over striker Terry Gornell.

The League Two rivals have begun negotiations over the 21-year-old forward who has agreed a deal to sign for Shrewsbury.

Gornell is out of contract at Accrington, for whom he scored 13 times last season, but the Lancashire club are entitled to a fee under the Bosman Ruling after offering the striker a contract.

“With Terry Gornell, it is still the early stages of negotiations with Shrewsbury at the moment,” said Accrington director Peter Marsden, who confirmed Gornell had been offered improved terms to remain at the Crown Ground.

“We are not afraid to go to a tribunal if neccessary as we want the best deal for our club.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ben Smith has backed teenage winger Jon Taylor to put a summer of uncertainty behind him and play a major role in Town’s promotion push in 2011/12.
