Graham Turner eyes three more Shrewsbury Town signings
Wednesday 6th July 2011, 11:48AM BST.
Boss Graham Turner is eyeing three more signings to complete his Shrewsbury Town rebuilding programme for next season.
Town have already brought in four new faces, Joe Jacobson, Rueben Hazell, Marvin Morgan and – subject to a fee being agreed with Accrington Stanley – Terry Gornell.
But Turner’s summer recruitment isn’t complete and he is now out to put the finishing touches to his defensive and midfield options.
“I’m looking for one defender and two midfield players and I think that will give us a well-balanced squad both in terms of positions and youth and experience,” revealed Turner.
“We will have a number of young players with one or two experienced players to help them on their way.”
Turner is likely to concentrate on the right back area in his defensive search after releasing David Raven at the end of last season.
Scrutiny
While Jermaine Grandison and Hazell can both fill in, the Town boss is likely to want to an out-and-out right back as Shrewsbury aim to go one better than last season’s play-off heartache.
And central midfield is also likely to come under scrutiny following David Davis’ return to Wolves after a season-long loan and the exits of Craig Disley and Kevin McIntyre.
Town were continuing their preparations today by embarking on a three day pre-season training camp RAF Shawbury.
The squad will undergo a series of football, fitness and team bonding exercises.
“It’s been a good start to pre-season and now we go to RAF Shawbury for a couple of nights,” added Turner.
“We have got a programme worked out with the RAF personnel and, in a perverse kind of way, I think the players will enjoy it.”
Meanwhile, defender Harry Hooman and youth team midfielder Ben Evans – who were both released by Shrewsbury at the end of last season – are on trial at Cheltenham.
