Town on Reds alert

The next crop of Shrewsbury Town aces are set to pit their wits against two of the top youth sides in the country in pre-season.
While Accrington striker Terry Gornell continues to be strongly linked with a move to join the Town first team squad, the club’s youngster are preparing for an exciting pre-season campaign.
They will travel to Liverpool on July 30 and FA Youth Cup finalists Sheffield United 11 days earlier as part of an eight game programme.
“For the guys who have been with us for a number of years, the opportunity to play against Liverpool against the top youth players in the country is really challenging,” said Head of Youth David Hughes.
“From a coaches perspective, mentally it is good to see if they rise to the challenge.”
The Town youth team will also be sent to represent the club in Shropshire Senior Cup semi final at TNS on Monday week.
Meanwhile, sources in Accrington claim they expect 21-year-old Gornell to complete his move to Shrewsbury at the start of next week.
Full youth team fixture list: July: 11th TNS (a), 16th Burton Albion (h venue TBC), 19th Sheffield United (a), 23rd Coventry (a) , 27th Cheltenham (a), 30th Liverpool (a). August: 2nd Hereford (h, venue tbc) 3rd – Hednesford under 18s (h, venue tbc).
