Ian Sharps welcomes new Shrewsbury Town recruits
Friday 1st July 2011, 2:56PM BST.
Defensive lynchpin Ian Sharps today welcomed Shrewsbury Town’s first wave of new recruits – and the added competition in his position.
Captain Sharps had his first close-up look at defensive duo Joe Jacobson and Reuben Hazell as well as striker Marvin Morgan when Town returned to pre-season training yesterday.
And he is impressed at the calibre of arrivals brought in by boss Graham Turner, who continues to be linked with a move for Accrington forward Terry Gornell.
“I played with Reuben at Tranmere quite a few years ago now and he just loves defending,” said Sharps.
“He is very experienced and is excellent in the dressing room and I think he will benefit everyone at the club.
“I remember coming up against Joe when we played against Accrington last season and I was very impressed with him at the time and Marvin is a really good forward.
“I’ve always had tough games when I’ve played against him and I’m glad I’ve only got to do it in training now and we will be on the same team on a Tuesday and a Saturday.
“We were all disappointed to miss out last season but that’s gone now.
“Promotion is our only aim again this time and I think that’s shown in the quality of players we have signed.”
Hazell is likely to do battle with Sharps and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff for the central defenders berth.
