Committed winger Jon Taylor today revealed he turned down Scottish Premier League interest to remain at Shrewsbury Town – as boss Graham Turner hailed new arrival Marvin Morgan as “a big piece in our jigsaw.”

In a fast-moving 24 hours at the Greenhous Meadow, Taylor and striker Morgan have both penned two-year deals while forward Nathan Elder has left the club after coming to a mutual agreement on the final 12 months of his contract.

Taylor’s decision to pledge his future to Town came after a month of negotiations were successfully brought to a conclusion.

“I’m made up to be staying at Shrewsbury,” said the 18-year-old.

“It has been a mad few days and my head has been all over the place.

“I had offers from Motherwell and Inverness and I was getting advice from a lot of people.

“But in the end I decided to make the decision myself and when I slept on it, I didn’t want to leave Shrewsbury.

“I love the club and I love playing for them and the gaffer has been a big part in me deciding to stay.”

Turner today spoke of his delight that the young Scouser had committed his future to Town.

“You never take anything for granted in this game and until anyone puts pen to paper, there is always that element of doubt,” said the Town boss of the negotiations.

“One or two outside influences might have been getting to him but the overwhelming feeling I got was that Jon wanted to stay here.

“Without a shadow of doubt I think he’s made the right decision – and that’s me speaking as his manager and as someone who takes an interest in player development.”

Morgan, 28 has arrived after a three-year stint at Aldershot which saw him score 28 times and have a stint on loan at Dagenham last season.

“Marvin and his agent told us there was a lot of competition so we are delighted to have him on board,” added Turner.

“He is someone I have had an interest in for a long time and he has always done well against us. I think this is a big piece in our jigsaw.”

Elder departs after two years at Shrewsbury which were plagued by a serious knee injury.
