Released striker Jake Robinson will be back to try and haunt Shrewsbury Town once again next season – after signing for League Two rivals Northampton.

Robinson, 24, started the campaign just finished as a first choice striker for Town, netting nine goals before Christmas.

But he fell out of favour, eventually moving to Torquay United on loan on transfer deadline day – and went on to net twice in a 5-0 league win over Shrewsbury and then helping the Gulls to reach the play-off final at the expense of his parent club.

Released by Town boss Graham Turner at the end of the season, he has now opted to link up with the Cobblers and their ambitious manager Gary Johnson.

“I was disappointed with the way things turned out at Shrewsbury,” said Robinson.

“At the start of the season I had high expectations and I wasn’t expecting things to turn out the way they did.

“But I had two good years there and overall I enjoyed my time.”

Looking ahead to a fresh start at Sixfields, he added: “They have got a lot of history and are a big club for this level, so as soon as the call came in, I was interested.

“Last season, I found more consistency and I’m looking forward to this being the season I get things right.”

Meanwhile, Town are still waiting on decisions from wide men Jon Taylor and Steve Leslie – who have both been offered new deals at Shrewsbury.

Taylor is currently away on holiday mulling over his options after a brilliant second half of the season that saw the 18-year-old score six goals.

Leslie finished the regular season on loan at Hereford, returning to Town for the ultimately failed play-off campaign.
