Bookies are backing Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town have been backed to bounce back from their League Two play-off heartbreak – with the bookies making them one of the hot favourites for promotion in 2011-12.

Town missed out on promotion thanks to a play-off semi-final defeat to Torquay, who then lost to Stevenage in the final.

But the bookies are confident that Graham Turner’s men can bounce back – making them a best-priced 12-1 third favourite to go up as champions in May 2012.

Big-spending Conference champions Crawley Town are runaway favourites to win back-to-back promotions, priced at 7-2.

Swindon, now managed by controversial former West Ham and Italy playmaker Paolo Di Canio, are the second favourites at a best-priced 10-1.

Bristol Rovers – who have just signed former Shrewsbury keeper Scott Bevan and ex-Telford midfielder Craig Stanley – are the other side fancied to be in the mix. They, like Shrewsbury, are available at 12-1.

for the past 4 years the shrews have been tipped by the bookies as racing certainties for promotion. on all 4 occasions town have failed to be promoted.
one of the reasons for this lack of success is down to bad luck. and bad luck has followed the shrews ever since the replacement of our traditional 3 loggerheads and floreat salopia badge with a pop art lenny the lion offering.
history tells us there has never been any connection with our medieval borough and lions, but there is a historic tie up with loggerheads similar to leopards
shrewsbury town will never win anything with our ruddy awful badge and i urge the board to announce that this badge is to be scrapped in favour of towns traditional badge. then and only then will town start winning promo and the bookies may be proved right. in the meantime change that ruddy badge rowland wycherley, otherwise graham turner and the squad labour in vain. floreat salopia and 3 loggerheads!!

Gary Peters once described us as the England of League 2 – and he may have been making some sense there. Too much expectation not matched by the playing staff I’m afraid.

i agree tommy lunch. were we also known as the man utd of the conference. we did well to escape from there after one season, but that was before we changed our badge. town may finish in the top 10, 8.9.or 1o. floreat salopia. bookies do not bet on it
