Town hoping Sharps won’t need surgery

Shrewsbury Town are confident captain marvel Ian Sharps will not require surgery this summer.
The 30-year-old, who swept the board in Town’s player-of-the-year honours, ended the campaign struggling with a thigh and groin problem.
That forced his crucial withdrawal in the first leg of the play-off semi-final with Torquay while he required round-the-clock treatment to declare himself fit to deliver a man-of-the-match display in the return.
But boss Graham Turner believes an operation can be avoided for the former Tranmere man.
“The specialist who saw Ian will continue to give him some treatment over the summer,” he said.
“But he is confident that surgery won’t be required which is good news for us.”
