Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner has been unable to finalise his side’s pre-season programme – due to uncertainty over the Shropshire Senior Cup.

Turner, who is busy having meetings with potential signings in a bid to strengthen his squad, is keen to produce a definitive list of pre-season dates.

A friendly with a Wolves side who enjoyed a dramatic final day Premier League survival on Sunday is understood to be on the cards while another attractive fixture could also be in the offing.

But Turner is unable to ‘dot the i’s and cross the t’s’ on his plans because it is unclear when their Shropshire Senior Cup semi-final with TNS – who will enter the tournament for the first time – will be held due to the Welsh Premier League team’s Europa League commitments.

“We are still in the process of sorting that (pre-season) out,” confirmed Turner.

“We were given dates for the Shropshire Senior Cup by the Shropshire FA between July 16 and 24 for the semi-final and the final.

“They had invited TNS without realising the implications of them being in the Europa League so the original dates have changed.

“They are trying to schedule our game on Astro-turf (at Park Hall) on July 10 which is far too early.

“I’ve been a little bit hamstrung in finalising our pre-season because of the uncertainty of when we will be playing the Shropshire Senior Cup.”

Turner has pencilled in his players return to training for June 28 or 29, giving them a five-and-a-half-week preparation ahead of the first game on August 6.

But the Town boss admits there is plenty of hard work ahead before that.

“A lot of people assume you finish the last match and that’s it,” he added.

“But a lot of the work is more intense at the moment in terms of the requirements for the playing staff and planning for next season.

“I will try and get a short break at some stage but the initial two or three weeks after the season finishes is a very busy period.”
