Jon Taylor ‘can grow with Shrewsbury Town’

Boss Graham Turner is “very hopeful” Shrewsbury Town’s teenage winger Jon Taylor will commit his future to the club.
The 18-year-old has been offered a two-year-contract extension to remain at the Greenhous Meadow.
Taylor, who has been a regular since bursting onto the first team stage in January and who scored six times in his 19 starts, has a month to decide whether to accept the offer.
And Turner believes the development of the Scouser – who made a huge impact before tiring a little in the closing weeks of the season – will be best served remaining with the club where he came through the youth system.
“Jon has done extremely well for us in what has been a big run for a young lad,” said Turner.
“We have offered him a two year contract and those two years will be crucial in his development.
“I couldn’t see any sense in him thinking of going anywhere else, knowing how the supporters have taken to him here and knowing how he has been given the opportunity.
“I would be very hopeful he will sign.”
Turner has also offered a one-year contract to midfielder Steve Leslie who returned to Town for the play-off semi-finals with Torqauy after a two month stint on loan at Hereford.
The Town boss will not discuss the future of striker Jake Robinson until the 24-year-old has lined up in Saturday’s League Two play-off final for Torquay — where he has been on loan since January – against Stevenage.
Robinson is out of contract at Town at the end of the season.
Town’s trio of loan players have left Shrewsbury for now with midfielder David Davis returning to Wolves and centre half Niall Canavan going back to his parent club Scunthorpe.
Reliable left-back Mat Sadler, who played every minute of Town’s season last term, is now a free agent having been released from Watford.
But Turner remained coy over whether he would be interested in pursuing Sadler for next season.
