Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner today began his attempts to build a promotion-winning team for 2011-12 by offering contracts to two players – and releasing five others.

Young winger Jon Taylor and midfielder Steve Leslie have both been offered new deals after Turner held a series of meetings with his out-of-contract players.

But the Town retained list has no place for David Raven, Kevin McIntyre, Craig Disley, Danny Taylor and Harry Hooman who have all been released.

Jon Taylor has scored six times since breaking into the first team at the end of January, while Leslie spent the last two months of the regular season on loan at Hereford.

“I think the loan spell he had at Hereford has done Steve the power of good,” said Turner.

“He has a very good left foot and I believe he can be a very good asset for the squad next season.

“Jon Taylor has started 19 games and, for a first bout of League football, that is quite a high number. He has done extremely well. He started to get a little bit tired towards the end but he has a lot going for him.

“He has tremendous enthusiasm and energy and we are pleased to have someone like him around.”

McIntyre leaves Shrewsbury after three-and-a-half years, the highlight of which came when he scored the late equaliser in the play-off semi-final at Bury which helped Shrewsbury to Wembley in 2009.

The 33-year-old has become a bit-part player this season and it was a similar story for Craig Disley who departs after two years.

No mention of Jake Robinson anywhere – isn’t he an out of contract player?

I dare say he’ll do nothing until after the weekend.

I should imagine that the decision on Jake Robinson will be made after his loan period is up this Saturday.
