Shrewsbury Town fans were hoping the club can mark its 125th anniversary in style by progressing to the League One play-off final tonight.

The team needs to turn around a 2-0 first leg deficit against Torquay United at the Greenhous Meadow, with a sell-out crowd expected.

Dave Matthias, from the Blue and Amber Fanzine, said the team was facing an uphill challenge.

“We’re 2-0 down against a decent side so it is going to take something special to turn things around,” he said.

“The fans need to stay patient and keep the volume up. If we can come back from 3-0 down against League One Charlton in the last 55 minutes, like we did earlier this season, we have to think positively over this.”

Fan Graham Puttock said Shrewsbury Town fans will have a big part to play at the game. “They [Torquay] aren’t bringing many but the three home stands will be full.”

He said he hopes for a victory that will be a memorable way to mark the club’s 125th anniversary.

“It would be a nice way to celebrate it with a win. It won’t make a difference to the players but it would be nice for the fans.”
