Matt Harrold urges Shrewsbury Town to fight back
Wednesday 18th May 2011, 2:12PM BST.
Striker Matt Harrold today urged Shrewsbury Town to draw on the ‘spirit of Charlton’ as they attempt to produce another famous fightback on Friday.
Town roared back from 3-0 down after 32 minutes to defeat League One Charlton at the Greenhous Meadow in a memorable Carling Cup first round tie in August, with Harrold scoring the dramatic winner to seal a 4-3 win.
And the former Wycombe forward believes that performance should give the Town squad confidence as they bid to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the League Two play-off semi-final second leg with Torquay.
“Quite a few people have mentioned what we did against Charlton to me and we can take belief from that,” said Harrold.
“We know the tie is definitely not over and we are all focussed about what we need to do on Friday night.
“The gaffer (Graham Turner) has made the point that when we have had blips this season, we have always come back strongly and that is what we need to do on Friday night.”
While Harrold concedes a disappointing weekend followed Town’s 2-0 defeat at Torquay, he insists spirits have now been lifted.
“It was a tough journey back from Torquay and all the lads were down because we didn’t perform as we can,” added the 26-year-old.
“I didn’t sleep much on Saturday night going through the game but we got in on Monday morning and had a good chat.
“It’s an old cliche but it’s only half-time. They are 2-0 up so there is more pressure on them and we have to give it a right good go.
“Going up would be one of the highlights of my career and it’s the same for all the lads so we are determined to give it everything.”

That’s the spirit Matty, go at them and add a little more physical aggression to the mix, we can be a little guilty of standing off teams for too long around our own penalty area. Put that right and i can see us knocking in 3 or 4 without a problem.
