Shrewsbury Town set to take on Torquay in play-offs
Saturday 14th May 2011, 1:46PM BST.
Determined Shrewsbury Town have vowed to go for victory when they begin their latest play-off odyssey at Torquay tonight.
For the first time in what is their third venture into the League Two play-offs, Town have home advantage in the second leg of the semi-finals.
Shrewsbury had previously booked their place in the final with dramatic away successes at MK Dons in 2007 and Bury two years later.
But boss Graham Turner, encouraged by his side’s away record this season, has vowed to push for an advantage when the two teams do battle on the English Riveria tonight (5.45pm).
“I look at our away record over the 23 games this season and we have won 11 of them which is a good return,” said Turner.
“We have got that confidence we have done well away from home so we will look to take the game to Torquay when we can and try and get the win.”
While Torquay have lost just one of their last 12 encounters, Shrewsbury are also on a hot streak of form after winning seven and drawing one of the final nine matches of the regular campaign.
And, with his side standing just three games away from a possible return to League One football after a 14-year absence, Turner has urged his side to maintain that run during the next fortnight.
“The past two months have been terrific so the message is more of the same please,” he said. “To go in the play-offs with that sort of form has to give the players confidence.”
