Striker Matt Harrold has urged Shrewsbury Town to focus on their own results during the promotion head-to-head – with his former club Wycombe Wanderers.

Harrold left Wycombe to join Shrewsbury last summer and is now part of the Town squad doing battle with the Chairboys for the final automatic promotion spot in League Two, in a fight set to go down to the final game.

Shrewsbury must better their rivals’ results in their last two games to pip Wycombe to a top three finish.

But Harrold has urged Shrewsbury to concentrate on their own jobs, starting with Saturday’s big trip to Cheltenham.

“All we can do is try and win our last two games and see where it takes us,” said the 26-year-old, who spent two seasons with Wycombe.

“You can’t bury your head in the sands completely and you look at the other results.

“But we don’t talk about it before we play our game. We just focus on what we need to do.”

Harrold has resisted the temptation to contact his old team-mates at Wycombe during the past few weeks.

“I had a chat with a few of them after we played them (last month’s 1-1 Greenhous Meadow draw) but we haven’t spoken since,” he added.

“I think we are all keeping our distance but I will certainly be speaking to them if we get automatic promotion!”

Meanwhile, coach Mike Jackson hailed Town’s young stars who helped beat AFC Telford 1-0 last night to lift the Shropshire Senior Cup.

First year scholar Kane Cork scored the winner while Ryan Woods won the man of the match award.

“Credit to the young kids that came in and the work that Dave (Hughes, Head of Youth) has done with them in the youth team,” he said.

“I thought all of them came out of it with some credit and I think it was good for the senior pros who played as well.

“They can get a big bogged down if they are not involved in the first team but there are lads in the Telford dressing room who would swap places with any one of them.”
