Tired Town all set for Easter changes
Saturday 23rd April 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Boss Graham Turner will be prepared to shuffle his Shrewsbury Town pack should fatigue set in for part two of their big Easter double header.
Town entertain play-off chasing Accrington Stanley on Monday in a game which begins just 48 hours after this afternoon’s trip to Hereford was scheduled to finish.
But Turner is confident his side have the strength in depth to cope with the demanding Bank Holiday schedule.
“You look for some fatigue with this type of programme and we will do that after today’s game at Hereford,” said the Town chief.
“We have players waiting on the fringes to come in.
“Last Saturday against Stockport we had Jermaine Grandison, Niall Canavan, Craig Disley, Kevin McIntyre, Matt Harrold and Mark Wright all on the bench so if we feel the need for change to freshen things up we can do that.”
Accrington, who were themselves hosting Bradford today, began the Easter programme in eighth place and four points behind Shrewsbury in fourth.
And Turner is aware that the unfashionable Lancashire club have the potential to be dangerous opponents.
“I think they have a siege mentality of the small club that the big ones bully us and the referees don’t do us any favours,” added Turner.
“But John Coleman (manager) has got them playing some very good football.
“Their formation is slightly different from most sides we will play against and they have got the likes of Jimmy Ryan, who used to be here, and one or two others who are capable of getting a goal or two from midfield.
“But in the end, it’s about how we perform. We have got players of capable of upsetting any defence.”
