Turner: Shrewsbury Town need four wins in five games
Thursday 14th April 2011, 3:35PM BST.
Shrewsbury chief Graham Turner today cast a glance over the Great League Two promotion race, declaring: “Four wins out of five should do it.”
No less than 10 teams are battling away for the three automatic promotion and four play-off spots on offer.
Town’s attention is firmly focussed on reeling in either Bury or Wycombe to snatch a top three finish.
Five and three points respectively separate Town from the two teams directly above them – and Turner believes 78 points will do it.
He knows his side require a strong finish to the campaign if they want to avoid the play-offs.
“There are massive games for everyone at the top of the table and each of the teams will be under a similar sort of pressure to us,” said the Town boss, whose team host struggling Stockport on Saturday.
“I would take four wins now and I think that would be sufficient with the fixtures the other teams have got, including some against each other.
“Four victories, I would think, would be almost a certainty to be in automatic promotion.”
Meanwhile, Turner revealed no decision has yet been made on whether the loan of midfielder Steve Leslie to Hereford will be extended.
Leslie has made six starts and one substitute appearance for the Bulls, scoring in last week’s impressive 3-0 triumph over champions-elect Chesterfield.
His initial loan is due to end after Saturday’s trip to Rotherham.
“No decision has been made yet,” said Turner over the prospect of an extension. “I spoke to Hereford last week and their thoughts were he was doing quite well.
“He has got a great left foot and a lot of ability.
“We have seen it most of the season in the reserves, but perhaps he hasn’t stepped up when he has gone into the first team.”

Play like we did against Aldershot and we won’t even make the play offs. Utter garbage. Can’t see how we can win 4 matches, yet alone one based on that performance?
