Full back David Raven today admitted Shrewsbury Town’s players will have “sleepless nights” over their Aldershot no-show – but urged his side to re-group immediately.

Town were soundly beaten 3-0 at the Recreation Ground on Saturday as they dropped out of League Two’s automatic promotion places and down to fourth.

Town are now two points behind Bury in third – who have a game in hand -  and three adrift of Wycombe in second.

Just two points separate Shrewsbury from Accrington in eighth. An honest Raven admitted Town were well below-par on Saturday, and has called for an immediate response with just five games remaining.

“It was devastating and we can’t put our fingers on it,” said Raven.

“It was a poor performance from start to finish, everyone – one to 11 and myself included – wasn’t good enough.

“It wasn’t for the want of trying.

“It’s hard to take and I think we will have a few sleepless nights.

“It was a horrible game for us but we need to regroup and go again — we are still in a great position.”

Raven admitted he was culpable in Danny Hylton’s opening goal for Aldershot.

“I have got to hold my hand up for the first goal,” said the former Carlisle man.

“My defending wasn’t good enough and deserved to get punished.”

Boss Graham Turner echoed Raven’s call for a positive reaction to the defeat.

“Everyone knows we were poor for the majority of the game and there were one or two harsh words in the dressing room after,” he added.

“But it’s how we react now which is important.

“We got beat 5-0 at Torquay a few weeks ago and we bounced back with four decent performances and results.

“We have to attempt to do that again.”

why are the shrews the jekyl and hyde of L2, 2 great away wins at bantams and millers and total capitulation at shots and the gulls. it is as though the players or some of them are not trying. a dangerous thing to do when the manager is weighing up who goes and who is staying. i am fairly confident graham turner is building a squad for next season and this season has been both great and also frustrating.
for 3 years now i have been saying town will never win anything with that lenny the lion badge. we need our traditional 3 loggerheads badge with a floreat salopia on it, back. until it is returned town will never win anything, graham turner is wasting his time and our sponsors are wasting their money.
chairman wycherley, will you be told, put down that decanter of port and change that ruddy badge and shrews bad luck.
it is a pity some of our players are not trying, they let themseves the club the manager and the fans down. are town capable of beating stockport and 4 others, now who will it be jekyl or hyde. change towns bad luck and change that ruddy badge!!!!!!!!!!!
