Blog: Shrewsbury Town really let themselves down
Monday 11th April 2011, 12:46PM BST.
We get ourselves in the automatic promotion places and then we produce a performance like that, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.
I don’t think any Town fan saw Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Aldershot coming, especially on the back of three wins.
With results going against us elsewhere it means we are once again out the automatic promotion places after just getting back in there.
Whether it was the pressure of occupying an automatic promotion place I don’t know, but once you’re in there you need to fight to stay there rather than take your foot of the pedal.
Saturday’s result also hit our goal difference which could play a big part at the end of the season.
A lot of our defeats this season have been of been our own making with players getting themselves sent off, giving away needless penalties and conceding sloppy goals.
This needs to stop or we can kiss goodbye to promotion, especially if we come up against a top team in the play-offs. They will make us pay!
Following Saturday’s disappointment, Town need to pick themselves up and get back to winning ways quickly.
On paper Saturday’s home game against rock-bottom Stockport looks easy, but they will be fighting for their lives so expect a hard-fought encounter.
But Stockport concede a lot of goals and Town’s strikers should be licking their lips at the thought of playing a side who we beat 4-0 in the reverse fixture in August.
Five games to go and Town have got some very winnable games, including Oxford and Hereford.
Every game needs to be treated like a cup final.
In theory we should at least make the play-offs, but if we don’t have any more repeats of Saturday and other team’s slip-up, automatic promotion is still very much on.
Whatever happens it is going to be an exciting end to the season with lots if twists and turns and lots of people with no finger nails left.

i doubt if town will even reach the play offs.we are not good enough to go up, not good enough to stay up. i believe graham turner is building a squad for next season. the fact town are nearly there is frustrating. shrews will never win anything with that lenny the lion badge, bring back the 3 loggerheads and a floreat salopia. can you hear me chairman. change that ruddy badge otherwise graham turner is wasting his time and greenhous are wasting their money.
the bottom line is town will never win anything with that ruddy lenny the lion badge. now then should i make a 480 mile round trip from devo to watch shrews lose to stockport, that is a big question
