Turner tells Shrewsbury Town to take nothing for granted
Thursday 31st March 2011, 11:22AM BST.
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner has warned his side not to take their remaining seven games for granted as the race for npower League Two promotion hots up.
On paper Town have a favourable run in with Turner’s men facing just one of the current top 10 sides – Accrington Stanley at home on Easter Monday – before the season’s end.
But the Town chief is insisting his side wont take any of the remaining matches lightly.
He said: “I don’t think there is anything that you can call an easy game in this division.
“There are a lot of teams fighting at the top and a lot of teams fighting at the bottom so we won’t take anything for granted.
“We have players playing for their futures and for their contacts for next season and so there is always something to play for.”
Meanwhile Town are still feeling the affects of a sickness bug that swept through the camp prior to Tuesday night’s clash at Rotherham.
Striker Matt Harrold missed that match with the bug while Jon Taylor and Ian Sharps also suffered.
And Turner revealed a number of first-team players have now been hit.
He said: “Matt Harrold hasn’t trained and Jon Taylor is still at home so they are doubts at the moment and we also have Danny Taylor struggling as well but Ian is okay.
“We’re just trying to minimise the risk to the squad.
“It’s believed to be a bacterial infection and it is obviously not ideal but we will get on with it.”
Shrewbury Reserves 4-1 defeat to Bury at the Greenhous Meadow failed to please Turner.
“I was disappointed with a number of our players’ performances,” he said.
