Blog: Town’s young star comes to the rescue with a late brace to keep our automatic promotion hopes alive, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

With things hotting up at the top and our rivals picking up some impressive victories at the weekend, a draw at Bradford would simply not have been good enough.

With things not going our way despite dominating for most of the game it was two inspired substitutions by Turner – Ainsworth and Bradshaw – that turned the game in Town’s favour.

Despite only one new loan signing before the transfer deadline Town should have a good enough squad to see us achieve promotion this season. On paper at least.

The signing of Niall Canavan has strengthened Turner’s defensive options and to have players like Disley and Ainsworth on the bench shows we have a strong midfield.

I felt we did need another experienced striker, but to get one on loan at this stage of the season was always going to be a near impossible task.

One criticism of Town this season is that in some games we haven’t been strong enough to kill off teams and put games to bed.

But if Bradshaw can continue to show his impressive finishing ability we should hopefully have enough strength in attack to overcome most teams.

Next up for Town is another trip on the road, this time to fellow promotion-chasers Rotherham on Tuesday.

Following Saturday’s win at Bradford the players should be high on confidence.

It will be interesting to see if Bradshaw has done enough to warrant a start. In my opinion he has.

The game will also provide the players with another chance to finally beat one of their promotion rivals.

Rotherham’s form has been a bit indifferent of late but they still pose a big threat, especially in attack.

Then on Saturday it’s a must win game at home to Macclesfield who haven’t got a lot to play for this season, lying in the bottom half of the table but seemingly clear of the threat of relegation.

In August, Town picked up a 1-0 win the reverse fixture and I am sure fans will take the same again in the circumstances.

At this point of the season it’s the results that are important and not the performances.
