David Davies of Shrewsbury Town gets tangled up with Gareth Ainsworth of Wycombe Wanderers

Shrewsbury Town were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in their promotion crunch with Wycombe after a controversial equaliser for the visitors.

After a sluggish start, Town took a 31st minute lead when Wycombe failed to clear a Mark Wright cross and the ball dropped for James Collins who made no mistake from close range.

Collins thought he had doubled the lead a minute after half-time but his effort was ruled out for offside.

And that was made all the more crucial when, four minutes later, Wycombe equalised through a Gareth Ainsworth header which left the home side furious as goalkeeper Ben Smith saved before the ball crossed the line.

David Davis, Nicky Wroe and Jon Taylor all went close to winning it for Shrewsbury, but the draw left them four points adrift of automatic promotion.

Absolutely disgraceful display of officialism today. The ball NEVER crossed the line, the pull on Collins was as clear as day as a penalty and the town penalty given at the end of the game by the lino was ignored by the ref.

I hope in a million years we do not have this buffoon and his linesman in charge of an under 9′s let alone a professional game….
