Matt Harrold hopes to boost Shrewsbury Town’s prospects
Friday 18th March 2011, 8:00PM GMT.
Striker Matt Harrold hopes to enhance Shrewsbury Town’s League Two automatic promotion prospects tomorrow – against the other club he achieved the feat with.
The 26-year-old’s CV includes a third-place finish with Wycombe in this division during the 2008-9 campaign.
It was to prove a sole season in League One for the Chairboys with their relegation last term coinciding with Harrold’s switch to the Greenhous Meadow.
The forward’s focus now is on repeating the promotion trick with Graham Turner’s side.
And he knows victory tomorrow over his former club — who are currently in the third automatic promotion spot and four points clear of Town — would be a significant step towards achieving that.
“It’s a big game but it’s got to the stage of the season where every game is massive when you’re in contention for something,” said Harrold.
“I’ve got up from this division with Wycombe before and I would love to do it with Shrewsbury.
“I wouldn’t go as far as to say tomorrow is must-win, but if we could get the three points it would be a massive boost heading into the final 10 games.”
Harrold is hoping to get the nod to start against his old club at the Greenhous Meadow after recovering from a bout of tonsillitis.
That illness forced him off at half-time in the 3-2 victory at Northampton, meant him missing the draw with Port Vale and having to settle for a place on the bench in last week’s 5-0 hammering at Torquay.
“It came on when I got on the bus to Northampton and felt a bit rough,” he added.
“I managed to get through to half-time in that game but then I had to come off.
“If I had stopped out on the pitch on the second half, I could have keeled over – I was that knackered.
“But I feel much better now and raring to go so hopefully I will get the start tomorrow.”
