Jake Robinson keen on new Shrewsbury Town contract

Striker Jake Robinson has revealed he is keen to earn a new contract at Shrewsbury Town – after helping to inflict a promotion wound on Graham Turner’s side.
Robinson, currently on loan at Torquay, struck twice against his parent club in Town’s damaging 5-0 reverse at Plainmoor on Saturday.
The 24-year-old was allowed to line up against Shrewsbury after the loan deal agreed between the League Two rivals in January failed to include a clause refusing him permission to play in the game.
Robinson admitted he is in the dark over his plans for next season – but hasn’t given up hope of returning to the Greenhous Meadow after his loan expires at Torquay at the end of the season.
“I have absolutely no idea about my future,” said Robinson. When the season is up I will speak to Shrewsbury.
“They hold my contract at the moment and if they want to extend it I will speak to them because I’m really happy there.
“I’ve got my friends and my flat is up there so that is definitely an option if they want to keep me.”
Robinson – who refused to celebrate either of his goals – admitted he had mixed emotions about scoring twice against Town.
“It was awkward because I have a lot of friends at Shrewsbury and as a team I went them to go up as much as Torquay,” he added.
“It’s hard but when you step over that line and the whistle goes, it’s all football business
“I didn’t celebrate out of respect. I’m always happy to score but I have a lot of friends up in Shrewsbury and have nothing against anybody there.”
Town boss Graham Turner insisted he had no regrets about not denying Robinson permission to play.
“We lost the game and were poor so it doesn’t matter who scored,” said boss Turner.
“If he hadn’t scored, somebody else would have the way we played.”
Despite Town’s heaviest defeat since losing by the same scoreline at Dagenham in August 2009, they remain just four points off the automatic promotion places.
“It was one of those days and we have to learn from it and gain something,” added Turner.
