Blog – All square for Shrews in a hard fought game
Monday 28th February 2011, 8:45AM GMT.
Five games unbeaten as Town and Gillingham cancel each other out in a hard fought game, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.
Despite not reaching the same level of performance of recent games, a point against one of our promotion rivals is still a decent point.
It took Town time to get going in the game, which could have been due to having two weeks off at a time when were we were hitting top form.
Unfortunately, Saturday also saw a number of our promotion rivals pick up wins, meaning things continue to remain tight at the top.
Whatever else happens this season the promotion race will go down to the wire and Town should be in the mix barring any major mishaps.
With players like Raven, Elder and Bradshaw nearing returns to the first team, Town will certainly have the strength in depth to continue their promotion push until the end of the season.
The fact that Turner has experience of winning promotion with Hereford should hopefully pay dividends and give us an edge on our rivals.
Next up for Town is a home game against another one of our promotion rivals on Tuesday.
Bury sit just one point behind Town, but with a game in hand and a certain Ryan Lowe in their side who will once again want to get one over on his former club.
Then on Saturday Town take to the road with a trip to Northampton who will still have ambitions of sneaking into the play-offs this season.
I think most fans would be happy with four points from the next two games.
