Shrews FC injury list beginning to clear up
Wednesday 23rd February 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town’s injured stars were stepping up their return to full fitness in the reserve team clash with Burnley today.
Nathan Elder is set for a longer run-out as he continues his return from a cruciate knee ligaments injury that kept him out for 10 months before coming on for the reserves last week.
Deadline day signing Kelvin Lomax and forward Benjamin van den Broek are both returning from ankle injuries.
And Town boss Graham Turner — whose side dropped to third in League Two as a result of Wycombe’s 4-1 win over Burton last night — admitted a question mark remained over right-back David Raven, who is recovering from a hip injury.
But the game has definitely come too soon for injured forward Tom Bradshaw, who is another to be sidelined by an ankle problem.
Speaking ahead of the reserves clash, Turner said: “Raven might feature, we’ll have to have a look at it before we start.
“It might have come too soon for him.
“He is making good progress and has had a couple of injections in his hip so he shouldn’t be too far away.
“Benji will play and Nathan Elder will have at least a half, if not more.
“We’ll also have Kelvin Lomax playing.
“Tom Bradshaw won’t feature — he has started running again but is still a week or two away at the moment.
“It should be a good test for us against Burnley — they’re likely to have a few first-teamers playing so it should be a good game.”
Meanwhile the Town chief said the squad were raring for a return to action after their League Two trip to Rotherham last weekend fell victim to the weather.
Turner added: “There’s no positives we can take out of the game being off.
“We had a good training session last week and we have started well this week but when you’re on a run of form like we are you just want to be playing games.
“I don’t see there being too many positives in terms of rest.”
