Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner believes the Don Valley pitch will present the biggest headache ahead of his side’s crunch League Two clash with promotion rivals Rotherham tomorrow.

The match is at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield where the Millers have played their home games for the past two-and-a-half seasons – and Turner admits the playing surface is a real concern ahead of the trip.

“I think one thing that we will have to watch is the pitch because it is not the best up there,” he said.

“I’m told the pitch is quite bad in the middle. I don’t think it’s too bad out in the wide areas but it will be a difficult surface.

“But we will have to cope with that and maybe just alter our game slightly.”

But Town’s players should be able to cope as they won’t be short on confidence, having won four games in a row to go second.

Shrewsbury make the journey without injured trio Tom Bradshaw, David Raven and Sean McAllister, and the game will come too soon for returning strike duo Benjamin van den Broek and Nathan Elder.

And Rotherham do have an enviable home record, having lost just one of their last nine League matches on their own, different patch.

“It’s a ground that creates no atmosphere with the running track around it and it will be different for our players,” admitted Turner.

“It’s not something we deal with on a regular basis.”

But Turner knows that Rotherham will be a big threat in a game which sees second visit third.

He said: “I think all the teams at the top of the table and in contention are there for a reason now and they are all going to be good sides.

“We will respect Rotherham and we know they will be a dangerous side.

“We had them watched on Tuesday and Accrington caused them a quite few problems, but in the end Rotherham were too strong for them.

“They have some good players and it will be a difficult game for us.”
