Blog: Shrewsbury Town are flying high
Monday 14th February 2011, 11:04AM GMT.
Town are flying high in League Two after hitting form at a great time, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.
Following the disaster of January, February is quickly becoming a fantastic month for Town after the players made it four wins on the trot with victories over Lincoln and Stevenage.
It wasn’t that long ago where we were struggling to keep clean sheets, but a change in goalkeeper and the signing of Germaine Grandison have really helped turned things around.
One of the most pleasing things to see is that we are not just relying on our strikers to get us goals; players from other areas of the pitch are doing so as well.
Most successful teams have got players all over the pitch that can score goals when the strikers aren’t firing.
A special mention must go to Lionel Ainsworth whose hat-trick helped inspire Town to victory against Lincoln.
By his standards he has had a disappointing season so far, but the ability is clearly there and when he is on form he can terrorise any defence. More consistency please!
What is even more impressive about Town’s run of form is that it has come at a time where we have had a lot of games in a short period of time.
I know other teams have had a hectic period as well, but at the moment we seem to be handling it better than they have.
Could it be because of fitness or has the fresh faces in the squad helped?
It wasn’t all rosy for Town last week following the news that Tom Bradshaw will be missing for a few weeks.
His injury would normally have worried me after we let Robinson go out on loan and considering Nathan Elder is still short of match fitness.
But in Mark Wright and Lionel Ainsworth we have got players who are more than capable of supporting Matt Harrold and James Collins.
With confidence high among the players Town need to keep their excellent run going, especially as our rivals have got games in hand.
However, we face a difficult task on Saturday with a visit to fourth place Rotherham.
Rotherham have a very impressive home record, losing just twice in the league all season and scoring 35 goals.
A repeat of the 1-0 home win in September would be a tremendous result, although I think most fans would settle for a draw in the reverse fixture.

how much more has young jon johnson got to do to get a mention let alone praise in the blog.
town are well run and well managed, the team is full of all rounders, prepared to work for each other. we do not need 26 goal prima donna goal scorers, when we have the strength in depth that the shrews have.
for uncle graham to so transform the team for 30k is staggering. floreat salopia, floreat graham turner et al.
town have 15 games left 8 at home, we need30/32 more points please

Yea well done Town on all fronts, it’s amazing what confidence can do throughout the team.
I tried to send a similar message last week but it wasn’t shown and that was that we have an amazing statistic this season and that is that only 3 teams have scored more than 1 goals against us in the league so far, this means if we can more regularly score 2 goals in a game we have an almost certain win on our hands, we have I believe the best defense in this league, praise goes to all of them, Grandison has made a huge difference and Smith too to that consistency.
Just keeping knocking two goals in per match and we’ll definitely be promoted….simple but true.
Also with the greatest respect James we shouldn’t settle for a draw at Rotherham, we need to go there and get all 3 points, they’re one of our main competitors and we should beat them with the same determination which has become our hallmark recently, teams should fear us and not the other way around.

Sorry James, correction, I now note that it was in fact shown, two similar messages on a positive note never hurts i guess.
Keep up the hard work Town. Remember, Turner is a legend, believe.
