Shrewsbury Town were today facing a race against time to complete the signings they hope will reignite their promotion dream.

Manager Graham Turner and his staff were facing a frantic day of negotiations as they attempt to bring in up to three new recruits before the January transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.

Wolves midfielder David Davis was one player reported to be close to agreeing a move to the Greenhous Meadow.

While neither club would confirm the move, it is understood Davis could agree a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old had a loan spell with Walsall earlier this term.

Young West Bromwich Albion defender Paul Downing was another linked with a possible move to Town.

Turner refused to be drawn on names this morning but confirmed the race was on to sign new faces after a damaging run of just two victories in their last 12 League Two outings.

“There are negotiations on-going,” Turner said.

“We are waiting for the nod from clubs, players and agents so the day might be productive.

“There will be plenty of activity at a lot of different clubs and we hope to be involved in that.”
