Paul Simpson is guest pundit on Shrews v Bury

Former Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Simpson will cast an expert eye over his old club tonight.

Simpson will be the guest pundit on Sky Sports, who are broadcasting the League Two clash with Bury at Gigg Lane live.

It will be an interesting assignment for the 44-year-old at an end of a week in which presenter Richard Keys and analyst Andy Gray have been at the centre of a media firestorm over sexist off-air comments caught on microphone about assistant referee Sian Massey.

“I will certainly be watching what I say,” quipped Simpson after an incident which saw Gray sacked and Keys resign from their positions with Sky.

“I find it a bit sad. When I was at Shrewsbury, I was involved in some games with (Shropshire-based female official) Sasa Iringhova and full credit to her and Sian because they are officiating at that level on merit.

“I’m sure Richard Keys and Andy Gray believe that as well and it’s sad that two people who are absolutely fantastic at their job are out of work.”

Simpson confirmed he has now moved from Maesbrook, near Oswestry, to live in Stockport.

Made boss of Stockport at the start of the season, he was sacked earlier this month.

“Even before I was manager at Stockport, we were talking of moving up there to be closer to my wife’s family,” he added.
