Midfielder Craig Disley believes Shrewsbury Town must re-discover their consistency to grasp the nettle in the League Two automatic promotion race.

Town find themselves sixth in League Two ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Bury in what is a congested fight for a top three berth.

While Chesterfield and Wycombe have opened up daylight over the chasing pack, the next eight teams are separated by just four points.

And Disley has urged Shrewsbury – whose promising three-game unbeaten streak was halted by Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Oxford – to string together a lengthy run of results and clamber back up a tight looking division.

“Anybody from mid-table upwards can still get automatic promotion with any decent sort of run,” said the 29-year-old.

“We thought we had our little blip for the season over Christmas and maybe Tuesday was another one.

“But if we can put any sort of run together, it will see us shoot right up the table.

“We are confident of doing that and we are better players than what we showed on Tuesday.”

Disley has welcomed a rapid return to action for Town in tomorrow night’s televised trip to Gigg Lane.

“It was pretty flat all over the park at Oxford and I can’t really pin-point why that was,” he added.

“But we have an opportunity to put it right at Bury tomorrow.

“It’s a massive game with them two points behind us with two games in hand.

“It’s on Sky and a chance for us to show we are a good side.”

Disley was struggling with a hip problem before Tuesday night but didn’t suffer any ill-effects and expects no problems ahead of tomorrow’s clash.

“I was a bit stiff and I had a few kicks against Chesterfield last Saturday and I got through Tuesday.,” the former Bristol Rovers man revealed.

“If selected tomorrow, I will certainly be ready.”
