Graham Turner unhappy with Shrewsbury Town

Boss Graham Turner will demand an immediate response after a “poor” evening in Oxford dashed Shrewsbury Town’s hopes of breaking into the automatic promotion berths.

Rotherham’s defeat at Stevenage meant Town would have moved into League Two’s top three with victory at the Kassam Stadium.

Instead, Town dropped to sixth place after being undone by their old boys in a 3-1 defeat, ex-striker James Constable firing a brace with former loanee Asa Hall scoring the other last night.

And with a televised trip to eighth placed Bury on Friday, Town have little opportunity to lick their wounds

“It’s another game coming quickly and we have a chance to put it right,” said Turner.

“We didn’t perform last night but the players have got a quick opportunity to redeem themselves.

“It was a poor performance, no doubt about that.

“We never got going and the pace of our play was nowhere near what I would have expected. They were sharper than us.

“We gave them a start with the first goal and got ourselves back into it.

“But the second and third goals were abysmal from a defensive point of view.”

While Turner continues his search for players ahead of next week’s transfer deadline, he is digesting another injury setback with on-loan right back Jermaine Grandison suffering a hamstring problem early in the game.

That brought an early substitute appearance for Dean Holden, whose agent Clive Hart had claimed could move on during January because Town have plenty of defensive cover.

“I think his agent has been a bit out of order in some of the things he said,” commented Turner,

“We certainly haven’t got enough defenders and (with Grandison’s injury) Dean is in the side and playing first team football.”

Striker Tom Bradshaw has been named on the stand-by list for the Welsh under 21 squad to face Northern Ireland at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground on Wednesday, February 9.

Lower teams? have you seen where Oxford are – one below you, and the above 7000 average gates this season? We played you off the park, as we have to most teams lately as Oxford get it down and play and have a go. Yes you are right, on last nights performance, Turner is not the right man, nor Shrewsbury world-beaters. Come on you yellows!

let us remember oxford are one of the in form teams in L2 having taken 12 points from 15 and rocketed up the league. still a poor performance from town.
the most important matter is will town ever win promotion with that ruddy lenny the lion badge. come on directors give the players a badge to wear with pride on their chests. 3 loggerheads and a floreat salopia. got it rowland , i want to hear those club tills ringing, with our new kit and badge selling well, otherwise there will be another pile of unsold shirts. atcham jack devon

Turner is NOT the problem. We need a solid CM (centre midfielder) to boss the game more.

I cannot believe that with less than one season gone people are questioning Graham Turner!!! Do you not remember how dismal it was under Simpson last season? The football Shrewsbury have been playing for the most part this season has been an exceptional improvement. Give the man a fighting chance-not only does he deserve it, but I’m sure he’ll get us where we want to go.

how dare a blogger announce that graham turner is the problem, he has been tows saviour, coming in at the last minute and still building a squad capable of beating 3 league 1 clubs so far this season and holding high flying southampton away for 90 minutes. town fans have much to be proud of, shame about that ruddy lenny the lion badge.

hi dizzy, nice to see a thread building up, well done shropshire star. atcham jack from deepest devon.

gor blimey even the shrews tie has that lenny the lion badge on it. shrews will never win anything with that ruddy badge. come on rowland wycherley sort yourselves out up there.

can you hear me chairman, i want the club shop tills to be ringing out sales and not a pile of unsold lenny the lion badged merchandise. how can we expect the players to perform with pride with that ruddy badge on their chests. the tie etc would look good with our traditional 3 loggerheads and a floreat salopia badge.

perhaps the board could ensure the club is no longer the laughing stock of L2
