Ex-Shrew Lewis Neal considers America move

Departed Shrewsbury Town winger Lewis Neal could be America-bound as he ponders the next move of his career.

The 29-year-old’s 18-month stint at Town ended on Saturday when he reached an agreement with Shrewsbury to settle the remainder of his contract.

Neal, who still lives in Leicester, is now considering his options and revealed that crossing the Atlantic is among them.

“I don’t want to say too much because everything is very much up in the air at the moment,” said the former Stoke and Preston man.

“There maybe a chance of training with one or two clubs in America so they can have a look at me and there are one or two possibilities in England.

“It’s just a case of weighing up my options and seeing what’s best.

“I want to get something sorted pretty quickly before a lot of players are out of contract and it becomes a rat-race trying to find a new club.”

Neal’s exit comes after a frustrating campaign which has seen him occupy a fringe role in Graham Turner’s squad, a couple of substitute League appearances supplemented by Johnstone’s Paint Trophy starts against Oldham and Bury.

And Neal admitted his Town career – which brought two goals in 25 starts and 11 substitute appearances — had proved a let-down.

“For whatever reason, it hasn’t worked out for me at Shrewsbury and that can happen in football,” he added.

“I certainly don’t feel the fans have seen the best of me. But there are no hard feelings at all and I have left very amicably.

“I wish the club all the best for the rest of the season and hope they achieve their goal of promotion.”

Town boss Graham Turner added: “We have got an abundance of wide players so I felt it would be appropriate to see if we could reach a settlement with Lewis.

“He goes with our best wishes and we hope he does well wherever he turns up.”
