Shrewsbury Town boss Turner chasing two more recruits
Saturday 22nd January 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town Boss Graham Turner is persevering with efforts to bring in two more new recruits before the January transfer window closes.
The Town chief has already completed a permanent deal for Aston Villa striker James Collins and a one-month loan for Coventry centre-back Jermaine Grandison.
But, ahead of this afternoon’s clash with League Two leaders Chesterfield, he has been quick to make the case for further reinforcements at the club.
“We’ve continued to look and we’d like to strengthen the squad by one or two more players before the transfer window closes,” said Turner.
“We’ve said all along that promotion is our aim this season and that’s not changed, despite our recent run of disappointing results.
“If we are to do that, we probably need a couple more coming in.
“We’ve lost several recently, Dave Raven being the latest due to injury.
“We’ve also seen Kris Bright and Daniel O’Donnell leave so there is scope to get one or two more in.”
Meanwhile, Turner has heaped praise on the Town fans for sticking by the team in recent weeks. Town had lost their last two home matches before today’s meeting with the Spireites and the Town boss has been relieved that the crowd have not turned on his side.
“The fans have been very good,” he said. “We’ve had two disappointing results but during the course of those games they have supported the players.
“There have been some boos when we’ve come off and I can understand that – but they’ve stuck by the players during the game itself and that is appreciated.
“We didn’t do our job right during those two games but they did.”
