Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner has shrugged off the challenge of facing League Two leaders Chesterfield tomorrow, declaring: “We don’t worry about tables.”

Town play host to the Spireites as they look to restore normal order at the Greenhous Meadow.

Turner’s men were unbeaten on their own patch until the turn of the year but that record has been wrecked this month with shock defeats to promotion rivals Crewe and Morecambe.

But a point at Barnet last weekend and a much-needed 3-1 win at Accrington Stanley on Tuesday have lifted Shrewsbury back into the play-off places.

“We don’t look too much at the League table at the moment, the important thing on Tuesday was the win – we were absolutely desperate for that,” said Turner.

“We’ve battled hard and got one or two draws when perhaps we should have done better.

“The two home defeats were hard to bear but you have to get up and start again – and we’ve done that with two battling performances.”

Town went down 4-3 on their first ever visit to Chesterfield’s new B2Net Stadium earlier in the season.

They had trailed 4-0 but set up a thrilling finale with a stirring fightback – and Turner believes they have nothing to fear going into the return fixture.

“We started well there for the first half an hour and to go in three down at half-time was a travesty,” he recalled.

“We put up a bit of a fight to get back to 4-3.

“It was a cracking game and we’re looking for the same level of performance tomorrow – just a little bit better defensively.”

Turner is likely to stick with the team that won at Accrington, meaning keeper Ben Smith and defender Jermaine Grandison are set to keep their places.

Meanwhile, Chesterfield have a new face in their squad, having sealed the loan of Manchester City defender Javan Vidal.

The 21-year-old right-back has previously had loan spells with Grimsby, Derby County and Aberdeen.
