Blog: An excellent week in the transfer market was marred by two awful results in the league, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

With Sadler, Wright and Collins signed up optimism around the camp was high and all we needed was three points against Morecambe to cap off a good week.

At 5pm on Saturday fans were left scratching their heads after suffering a humiliating 3-1 defeat, our second at home in five days.

Let’s put our recent slump down to us being rusty after a weather interrupted Christmas programme, but I would also question the manager’s decision to leave Robinson and Harrold on the bench on Saturday and start two kids.

It’s a bit early for fans to be panicking about our promotion chances and a couple more acquisitions to the squad this month should give us the strength we need to maintain a challenge until the end of the season.

Sadler and Wright staying was a good bit of business for Turner, while I think James Collins is an excellent signing and a hot prospect for the future.

Turner now needs to look at bringing in a quality centre half and central midfielder.

After a recent slump in form at home Town will probably be glad of going on their travels to face struggling Barnet on Saturday.

Quite simply it is a must win game as we can’t afford to let the teams around us pull away at the top.

Barnet are vulnerable at the back and have already lost six league games at home this season.

In the reverse fixture in October we narrowly beat them 2-1 and fans will certainly take that at this stage of the season.

2011 hasn’t been too kind to us so far but, as they say, things can only get better.

We’re half way through the season in which Turner has come in and almost entirely changed the team and the style in which we now play, this has created excitement and perhaps too much expectation surrounding immediate promotion.

Realistically we’ll be very lucky if we do get automatic promotion, it’s not impossible but it’s very much about how well each player can perform for the next 20 games and to be honest it will need to be every match, this isn’t happening and Turner still has a lot of work to do to instill cohesive play in every part of the field, we do have some skillfull players, but on the whole there are 5 other teams who seam to have grasped a higher understanding of 90 minute concentration. We still seam incapable of lifting our game and competing all the way through a match, other teams sense this very quickly and are making us look quite poor at times.

The rest of the season is very much about digging deep and all the players, not just some doing there jobs at the highest standard, otherwise I’m afraid we will miss out again….I’m hopeful but not totally convinced we’ve got it right yet.
