In-limbo winger Mark Wright has stressed his desire to remain part of Shrewsbury Town’s promotion push as uncertainty remains over his future.

This afternoon’s League Two home clash with Crewe was due to be the final game of the 10-goal top scorer’s initial loan from Bristol Rovers.

The League One club are seeking to sell the player for a fee in January and – while no deal has been struck yet – Wright is hoping he can remain at Shrewsbury.

“I’m not sure what is going to happen so we will have to wait and see,” said the Wolverhampton-born 28-year-old.

“It’s not really in my hands.

“I’m hoping something will be agreed with Shrewsbury because I want to stay here so it all depends on what Bristol say.

“I’m enjoying it here and it’s back home. Bristol don’t want me to go back. They have circulated my name and want a fee for me.

“I just want to keep playing and hopefully help Shrewsbury get promoted if I’m still here.”

On the Wright deal, Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner added: “We have spoken to Bristol Rovers and we are not in agreement.

“His loan finishes after the Crewe match and we will see what this week brings – it’s in the balance.”

Meanwhile, Turner remains hopeful of making permanent additions to his squad during the January window – and is keen to ensure any new recruits will benefit Shrewsbury long-term.

“There are a number of targets we have talked to – we have talked to agents and clubs,” he added.

“It remains to be seen whether any of them come to a conclusion. We want to strengthen but only with the right calibre of player both technically and character wise.

“In the main, we are looking longer term than just the next half season. We want to get up this season but we are certainly looking at longer-term prospects and hoping they will continue to take the club forward.”
