Shrewsbury must show promotion credentials

Three weeks without a game was always likely to produce a rusty performance from Town, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

In the end a draw against Burton on Saturday was probably a fair result as both teams played out a scrappy game.

On another day we could have easily nicked something from the game, especially if we had taken our first half chances.

It is games against the likes of Burton we need to be winning if we are genuinely serious about promotion.

The long break because of the weather certainly hasn’t helped with our sharpness, but it has allowed some players to get over their injuries.

As ever January is a crucial time in the season which can often make or break teams. Turner is working hard to extend the loans of Wright and Sadler which is crucial because both players have been excellent for us.

In terms of other new faces, Turner has already hinted his squad is very large, although I would like to see us bring in a centre half, strengthen our midfield and bring in a striker.

Who would fans like to see us sign?

Next up is two homes games on the trot, starting today against local rivals Crewe, followed by Morecambe on Saturday.

The game against Crewe won’t be easy as they are also chasing promotion and score plenty of goals.

However, we can take a lot of hope from the fact that Crewe are not the strongest in defence and we have already beaten them in the league this season.

Morecambe on the other hand are struggling in the league and three points for us is a must.

2010 has seen a lot of changes at the club, including a new manger and changes to playing staff.

The year finished on a high and we need to keep momentum going and make sure 2011 will prove successful and live long in the memory for all the right reasons.

How would fans sum up 2010 for Town in one word?
