Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner has been left fuming by the late postponement of their trip to Lincoln City – 45 minutes after the Town coach had set off.

The Bank Holiday Tuesday clash was called off at 9.45am following a pitch inspection at Sincil Bank.

Despite the rise in temperatures parts of the pitch stayed frozen and referee Carl Boyeson called off the game.

But Town chief Turner was unimpressed by the delay from Lincoln officials, insisting they already knew a day earlier that the game had virtually no chance of going ahead.

“There’s nothing you can do about the weather but greater consideration sho-uld have been shown to us and our supporters from Lincoln,” said Turner.

“We now gather it was almost certain to be called off with the conditions as they were on Monday and everyone was aware of the time we were leaving.

“It’s been called off at 9.45am and they knew we were setting off at 9am — would that 45 minutes really have given them any more chance of getting the game on?

“Why consideration wasn’t given to us as a travelling club I can’t understand and we are far from happy with the way it has been handled.”

Meanwhile, Town’s squad were today enjoying a day off before returning to training tomorrow for Saturday’s trip to Burton Albion.

Shrewsbury are hoping to be back in action at the Pirelli Stadium, having not played since December 11.

“By tomorrow we’re hoping we should be able to get on grass,” added Turner. “The players have trained throughout the Christmas period so they’ve now had a couple of days off and we’ll get stuck into the Burton preparations tomorrow.”
