Shrewsbury Town caught in League Two white-out

Shrewsbury Town were today coming to terms with their latest weather frustration after a blanket white-out in League Two.

Town’s trip to Oxford was postponed shortly before 9.30am on Saturday morning after heavy snow and plunging temperatures gripped England.

A 1-1 draw with Cheltenham represents Town’s only game since November 23, with their next scheduled outing a mouth-watering home clash with Bury on Boxing Day.

And the second major blast of arctic conditions this winter has given manager Graham Turner and his staff a fresh headache with regards training this week.

“We had a schedule planned and we will just have to see if the weather allows us to stick to that,” said boss Graham Turner.

“We have a training game planned against TNS tomorrow and we will make a decision on that today.

“The players have been very good at dealing with what has been thrown at us by the weather.”

Turner is desperately hoping the Boxing Day meeting with Bury will beat the big freeze.

“It is one of the most attractive fixtures of the season against a Bury side who are going well,” said Turner. “And Boxing Day always provides one of – if not the – biggest crowds of the season.”
