Weather stops Shrewsbury Town’s Oxford match
Saturday 18th December 2010, 10:47AM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town’s League League Two clash at Oxford was today the latest victim off the freezing weather.
Match referee Steve Tanner inspected the pitch at 9am and despite the surface being covered, severe overnight frost had left areas frozen solid with snow a major issue.
The Welsh Premier’s big top of the table showdown last night between The New Saints and unbeaten visitors Bangor City was postponed.
Although the Park Hall pitch was playable, the encounter was called off as Bangor were unable to make the trip from North Wales due to heavy snow.
Five games in League One have been called off. Rochdale’s game against Bournemouth, Southampton’s trip to Walsall, Hartlepool’s match with Charlton, Leyton Orient’s game against Plymouth and Carlisle’s trip to Yeovil are those to have been postponed.
In League Two, Stevenage’s trip to Bury, Accrington’s game with Burton Albion, and the visit of Macclesfield to Hereford are also off. Several games in the Blue Square Bet Premier are off along with the horse racing at Ascot, Newcastle and Haydock today and Carlisle tomorrow.
