Quatt aim to reach Knockout last eight

A Shropshire cricket club aim to move within touching distance of a national final at Lord’s tomorrow.

Quatt make the trip to Leicestershire to take on Cropston in the last 16 of the National Village Knockout.

The Shropshire County Cricket League Premier Division side have reached the last eight once before in 2010 and hope to match that achievement – and move within two games of the showpiece occasion at the home of cricket.

“It’s games like this why you play the game at our level,” said club spokesman Adam Evans.

“If you can get through this stage you really start thinking about Lord’s, so it’s a massive day for the club.

“We were massively disappointed when we lost in the quarter-final two years ago and the lads who played that day don’t want that same feeling again.”

Quatt have used the power of social networking sites to learn a little more about their Leicestershire County League Division One opponents.

“We have managed to find out some information from people on Twitter about their ground and their opening bowlers, which should help us,” said Evans.

Quatt do have a fitness scare over key left-arm spinner Jimmy Arbuckle, who has a groin injury.

Should tomorrow’s game be off due to the weather, the tie will be reversed with Quatt having home advantage next Sunday.
