Bowls champions Newport start well

Newport began their defence of the Shropshire Premier League with an impressive 9-5 win at Castlefields.

Daniel Hand led the way for the defending champions last night with an emphatic 21-7 success proving the high point for the visitors.

Martin Codd registered the home side’s biggest victory (21-10) but that was a mere consolation for the home side.

Premier League new-boys Burway and Hadley both suffered a tough start as they lost on their travels.

Dave Price was Hadley’s top player as they went down to a 11-3 reverse at St Georges while Ifton proved too strong for Burway with a 9-5 triumph.
