Pallett lost a second round last leg battle 5-4 to Paul Milford to fall some way short of making the cut for the worlds,

writes Craig Birch.

The 26-year-old toed the oche at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan with four places available for the worlds, at Alexandra Palace in London from December 15 to January 2.

He got a bye past his board, but was then thwarted by Milford after a hard-fought contest to put paid to his chances.

The Shropshire thrower will not be a part of the tournament for the first time in three years, after making his debut in 2014.

He was whitewashed 3-0 (sets) by Adrian Lewis on his Ally Pally bow, but dramatically beat Kim Huybrechts 3-2 on his return last December.

He was then defeated 4-3 by Mensur Suljovic in another thriller and was well-placed to build on his progress at the turn of the year.

But he's plummeted down the rankings in 2016 and is joint 50th on the overall Order of Merit.

He finished joint 71st on the Pro Tour and joint 105th in the Players Championship standings.
