Beth Partridge waiting on a call for Rio 2016

Shropshire athlete Beth Partridge is hoping she has done enough to get on the plane to the Rio Olympics.

The high jumper from Bridgnorth won a silver medal at the British Athletics Championships in Birmingham – and she also beat the qualifying standard for Rio with a jump of 1.82m.

The top four jumpers at the trials gained the qualifying requirement of 1.76m so Partridge will have to wait for the call from Team GB.

Welshpool shot putter Adele Nicoll won a bronze medal at the championships. The former Oswestry Olympian, produced a throw of 16.14m at the event.

It doubles up as the Olympic trails, although Nicoll is targeting the next Games in Tokyo 2020.

The performance at Birmingham followed on from another milestone achieved when she claimed a silver medal in the British under-23 Championships.

It came with a personal best of 16.24 metres – the throw making her the fourth best teenager of all time in Britain.
